I know bunches of you have been waiting for photos of Gary's 40th birthday party...well wait no longer. I am posting what I will call a "preview". Jessica took tons more photos than I and let's face it, she's a better photographer, too. But, maybe these will tide you over until she gets hers on the ole blog. Don't rush her --she has TEN kids.
So, first a little peek at the decor.
We set up the food inside, but the rest of the party was held in the front yard. I doubt we could have ordered up a more beautiful day - 75 degrees with a little breeze. Awesome. The food was all themed and included these cute cupcakes, Nerds, Smarties and Dum-Dums (that the kids made short work of). Heh.
Over the table we stung up some archaic CDs (does anyone still use these for storage?) with fishing line. This photo can't really capture how they spun and twinkled in the sunlight. Fun!
"Smart" water was served, as was our secret recipe for punch. The kids fixed up these test tubes for us and Keith whipped up the little wood stand. Then, we translated our punch into a scientific formula. Not really. Just made that up. Hee. The guys had fun trying to figure it out, though.
The tables outdoors also sported some centerpieces. Keith had old engineering plan sets from work that we used for table covering, then we added stacked up "nerdish" books, globes and other accessories. (Tell me that Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is not the most nerdish book out there).
Of course, it's people that make the party --here's the guest of honor Gary trying to court his nerd girlfriend. I think she secretly likes him.
An outtake of Clara - she was dying at the seatbelt/belt. Yes, I really bought that in New York one time. In any case, I made up the decal for the shirt with a fun font and some clip art. Not too bad for a fun prop. Instead of having the guest dress up, we provided a box of nerd clothes, glasses, etc. and also set up a "photo booth" in our driveway. I'm pretty pleased with how the photos turned out. The party goers really "pop" against the plain white background (I have a 9 foot wide roll of paper just for photo shoots).
Clara and Hannah - lovin' the nerd glasses (?)
Clara is quite advanced in her reading level.
Hannah couldn't be more perfect with her braces, ponies and Grandpa sweater.
Speaking of Grandpa - here he is.
Joined by his lovely bride. (Ken and Edna - Keith and Gary's parents were in town, luckily, for the party).
Even Sophie was quite amazed by her experiments.
Looks like Chloe is duly impressed, too.
Well, we definitely had a GREAT time planning, preparing, and mostly enjoying the party. Like I said, Jess has quite a few more photos -- I'm a little nervous about when she got Keith and I in that photo booth. Hee, hee.
I'll post a note when she gets them up. Oh, and stay tuned for a fun BLOG hop tomorrow featuring a new Paper Crafts magazine special issue. Sweet.
Later.
totally nerdy! I was just going through my pics today in fact... hoping to have them posted tomorrow, if my ten kids don't get in the way... ;-)
