Well, I think the photo shoot was a success. I haven't edited any of the photos, but upon first review it looks like at least one of the whole gang turned out. With eight kids, any one of them is bound to look a little odd; Ethan has his eyes half shut, Sophie is sporting the fakest grin ever, etc. But, that's life.
So, while we are waiting for edited proofs, how about I share the chalkboard paint project?
Although this is obviously an outtake, it shows what plans I had for the chalkboards. Yep, that's what I made, my own photo shoot props. Here's how it went.
I picked up three gold frames from Goodwill. I didn't really have time (or the inclination) to paint the frames so I went with a classic gold. I particularly liked the long skinny one.
The clerk at Goodwill particularly liked this one. Not even kidding. He really hesitated to ring it up because he was convinced it was marked wrong (too cheap). He almost called a manager and looked at me suspiciously like I had switched tags. He finally asked me "why is this one so cheap?". I looked him right in the eye and asked back, "because it's ugly?" He was quite shocked. I mean, I like retro as much as the next gal, but glass owls. on mirror, framed in black velvet definitely hit my limit. Sheesh.
On with the project.
Yes, this is leftover paint from Clara's walls. A note about the paint - splurge for the Benny Moore. It's the absolute best.
I measured the inside of the frames then had my Dad help me cut thin plywood to fit. Easy.
Two coats of paint later - they were done. Quick and easy. I love how they turned out. I can imagine that someday I may go ahead and paint the frames. Wouldn't they be cute three different bright colors? We'll see.
Hope this spurs some creativeness in you today.
Have a great Monday.
Later.
LOVE THEM! I adore that one of Ethan and Ello together! And that's an outtake? No. I think not! It's adorable! Ethan looks so cool with his baby sis. I can't wait to see all these!

Hard to take my eyes off the kids - SO cute. Great idea. Gold is actually a nice contrast with the colorful clothes. I hate having to stand my ground in a thrift shop, but, hey, I shop there for bargains. If I don't get bargains, I may as well shop at the mall. Sometimes the thrift shop prices really make me wonder if they're on a power trip. It's not Christies. It's used and it's ugly, folks. It's like taking in rescue dogs; be glad we're taking the stuff home.

Cute Chalkboard idea and the photos are sweet, I'm sure. Maybe you should paint the frames Christmas colors and frame the Christmas card photo and two of the 'outtakes' for a decoration? Just a thought.

What is so great about paint is that you can paint and REpaint those frames for whatever season or color combo grabs your fancy that particular time. this is such a great idea that I will have to make some for my own photo shoots!!! Thanks!

OMGosh I am right in the middle of creating the exact same thing for my nearly 18yr old daughter. I have a faux gold victorian frame from goodwill and DH has donated the chalkboard paint. Now I am on the lookout for the right board to cut to size. Thank you for sharing your projects.
