pallet bed tutorial

You may have seen the fabulous pallet bed that Ashley Ann made; or the cutie pie ones that Jen made. Now, you can see my take on the pallet bed. (And, how we made it).

I suppose there are many ways you could make one of these. I was looking for two things: cost effective and FAST. We had a guest coming to stay and had basically one day to whip these out. Yikes.

Keith is really good at production (thank goodness), so he immediately knew how to increase effeciency. He cut all the boards first. Then, he lined them all up and sprayed sealer on the whole lot at one time.

Next, he lined up the 2 X 4 boards and drilled pilot holes in the 1 X 6 boards for the screws. (Production, remember?)

Next, his Handy Helper Harrison made short work of screwing the boards together.

Look how he placed all the screws first, then came back and zapped them all out. Hee, hee. (He learned from the master).

Next came the wheels. (Isn't this quick?). Keith squared them up on each corner and bolted them in place.

I wanted the bolts to show; makes it a little more industrial looking.

 
Nothing else to do but wheel them into the room (okay, carry them in), and make up the beds. We positioned the pair of them with a table in the corner for now. In the future I can see moving the one  down to make a big corner bed  filled with pillows. Wouldn't you love to hang out there and read a book or two? I would.

Love how these beds complete the room. Having headboards would just be too much. Sigh. Love it.
