So, where do we spend a LOT of those hot summer days here in Arizona? Up north - in Flagstaff. It's a wee two hour drive up the hill and we can easily drop 20 degrees in temperature. My family is lucky enough to have parents that own a cabin in Flagstaff. They have owned the cabin since I was in High School and it's seen a ton of remodeling projects. The inside has pretty much been completely updated. We did the kitchen last summer and it's super comfortable now.
Our next big push is working on the outside. Here's a snapshot of the front.
It's a little hard to see through those trees, but the front is basically a door with a window on each side. The right side over there has a small, one car garage. The main deck is on the left. We've recently decided that since the family has grown so big this deck is just not enough.
We want to add another level here.
I was thinking of a ground level deck coming off that corner and coming out into the yard. Tristam is going to mock up something on the computer - I'll show you when he gets it done.
We also want to replace the skirting all around the bottom of the cabin. Mom and I both love the look of river rock. Check out the neighbor's cabin:
(Well besides the fact that this cabin is twice the size of ours) - isn't that rock gorgeous? It's really a manufactured product that comes in panels, then you add the grout after it's been installed.
I'll take more photos along the way and keep you updated. It's fun to work on a project that not TOO huge. Plus, it will give us a good excuse to head "up the hill" more often. Hee, hee.
How's your Tuesday treating you?
Later.
Ooooooooooooo, what a pretty setting for your cabin! I love it and another level for your deck will give you more room and update your outdoor space.

What a nice excuse to head north...we don't ever do that. Will need to discuss w/dh. That's a good idea since it seems to be heating up around here!
